Videos are taking the web by storm! That can’t be much of a surprise though. Wouldn’t you rather watch a WordPress video tutorial that takes you step-by-step through a process that you have no clue about vs. wading through page after page of directions in text? Honestly, a picture is worth a thousand words, but an instructional video I’d wager is worth a million, a billion, no…priceless.

Take a look at a short video created by Jack Humphrey of the Friday Traffic Report where he gives you the “ins and outs” of adding a YouTube (or any other) video to your WordPress site. It really is easy! This is the first I did on a WordPress site, and it was a snap!

Note: Jack talks about disabling the rich text editor before you embed a video into your WordPress site. In versions 2.2+ (that’s shorthand for versions 2.2 and above or newer - 2.2, 2.3, etc.) video embedding is really a lot easier. You just ignore the Visual tab and click directly onto the “Code” tab, enter the YouTube (or other video) embed code into the copy. No need to change user options unless you have an earlier version (earlier means 2.1, 2.0, etc.) of WordPress. Just paste the embed code into your WordPress Code area. I’ve also been told it’s best to add the embed code after the text in your post, then hit “Save.” This will minimize any glitches. One other thing: DO NOT come back to the Write or Manage page and edit the post using the Visual tab; only use the Code tab. If you do, then the rich text editor contaminates the code and you’ll have to embed code again. Let me know how you make out!
