I know you’re frustrated! You’ve got a great blog but you’re getting spammed like crazy from the off-shore automated spambots that search out and pummel vulnerable sites with worthless, and many times disgusting comments. Maybe you’ve even had to change your options so that you moderate every comment before it posts to your site ;-(

Bummer!

There is hope though. The following plugins are sure to make your life easier in dealing with the problem of comment spam…

Akismet - This is a super plugin for filtering out comment spam and trackback spam on your blog. It now comes installed on the latest versions of WordPress. You’ll need to get WordPress API license to activate it, but it’s easy to do. Just follow the instructions in the Plugins section of your WordPress Dashboard.

Spam Karma 2 — another great spam fighting plugin, use this in conjunction with Akismet and you’ll scatch at least 95% of the automated spam from your blog.

Did You Pass Math - To catch the remainder of automated spam, this program asks commentors to solve a simple math problem (like what’s the sum of 2 + 3?), which is hard for automated bots. And, unlike many captcha images, it can be read by screen readers, so you don’t block people with poor vision from commenting on your blog. Math Comment Spam Protection is also a similar plugin as Did You Pass Math and works for all themes (Did You Pass Math only works for standard themes).

Simple Trackback Validation Plugin: Eliminates spam trackbacks by retrieving the web page located at the URL used in the trackback and checking if the page contains a link to your blog: if not, the trackback is placed into comment moderation queue.

Following, you’ll find a quick on the Did You Pass Math plugin…Enjoy!
